It is officially the end of ‘three square meals a day’ with a third of Brits eating two times or fewer, research has revealed.
While the staple for most adults is breakfast, lunch and dinner, the survey of 2,000 UK adults found 27 per cent were only having two meals per day on average.
And five per cent admitted eating one main meal per day.
This is according to research by lifestyle nutrition company Swisse Me, which looked at Brits' diet and exercise regime.
Men are more likely to skip a meal, with 62 per cent of women having three meals per day compared to 56 per cent of their male counterparts.
It also emerged the average adult was snacking twice per day.
Swisse Me's nutrition product manager said: “Snacks play an important role in diets, helping to gain essential nutrients and maintaining energy levels when needed.
"The need for convenient and portable options is matching our modern active lifestyles, and our healthy recipes are designed to tick all your boxes.”
Swisse Me investigated what people consume as part of their fitness and wellness regime.
One third of the respondents said they had vitamin and mineral tablets such as iron and cod liver oil.
When Brits are working out, 37 per cent will stop and have a snack, while 40 per cent don't eat while exercising. A quarter don’t tend to take a break while working out at all.
Fruit is the snack Brits are most likely to have after a workout, followed by an energy bar and chocolate.
Making up the top five snacks are biscuits, smoothies and protein-based shakes.
The top 10 most popular post-workout snacks are:
